November 6, 2015
Dear TCGDC Parents,
As you know, the TranZed Academy was designed to provide enrichment activities for your children. The original concept was inclusive and designed to be as convenient to parents as possible. This included programming for five days a week, small group sizes, additional creative arts staffing and transportation.
Unfortunately, our per-pupil allotment and current enrollment do not support this level of service. As we right-size the budget we must make difficult choices. With that in mind, effective Monday, November 16, 2015, we will no longer be able to offer the TranZed Academy in its current form. This coming week will be the last week for TranZed. Beginning on November 16, all students will be dismissed at 3:30 p.m. Students must be on a bus or picked up at 3:30. We do wish to provide enrichment activities for students and are working to create plans that we can afford for this school year. It is hoped the program will expand in the future as funds permit.
NEW AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
Beginning, Monday, November 16, 2015 we will be offering three after school clubs. We will offer a sports club that will focus on one sport per season, led by our Physical Education instructor, Mr. Porter. In addition we will offer both a music club run by our Music Teacher, Mr. Williams and a step dance club run by Mr. LaDraveous-Lee. Each club will run for a specified time, which will be communicated shortly. The sports club will not be initiated until later in the year (sometime between December 1st and January 29th). We plan to offer a sports club with boys and girls basketball teams for elementary and middle school grades.
We are also planning for the creation of additional programs, including a STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) club. Our hope is to expand the offerings over the year.
Each club will have a limit to enrollment. If more students apply than available space, we will hold a lottery, or in some cases, auditions. The music club can accommodate 25 and the step dance club 10. Each club will have an application process.
Each student and parent will sign a contract detailing the responsibilities of participation. Only students who can manage themselves effectively will be allowed to participate in any of the activities. Furthermore, we will not be able to provide transportation to those who wish to participate and will limit the number of enrollees to each club. While we regret the need to discontinue the current program, it is hoped these new enrichment activities will provide opportunities for your child.
